'Kawari' describes something strange, peculiar or out of the ordinary.

Our guess is that this was originally to be a very long yanagiba, failed somewhere in the quenching process long ago, and as in a fairytale of old has been magically transformed into a snub-nosed slicer that we can properly describe as one of a kind. Maybe it should have a higher price.
