Product Description
Compared to other deba knives at the same blade length the Toyonaga Hamono premium deba is very slightly taller and thicker, which adds up to a little more steel for the length. It also means a little more weight. A dense deba.
In hand it feels like a quality item and the extra weightiness feels right. As with all the Toyonaga Hamono products fit and finish are of a high standard.
Note that the neck of the blade is protected against water ingress at the handle. The general disadvantage of Japanese blades is the potential for rust. If it takes hold inside the handle it may result in an eventual failure; caulking at the insertion point is a good preventative measure, especially for a pro-use deba knife bound to see a lot of wet work. Toyonaga san takes care of it as a matter of course.
